Description

If you’re wondering how to make tasty BBQ ribs without a grill or a smoker, this oven-baked recipe is a great place to start. They’re really good. Not only are these ribs smoky, sticky, and just a little bit sweet, they’re fall-off-the-bone delicious and take less than 10 minutes to prep before baking low and slow in the oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 to 3 pounds of pork ribs (spare ribs, country-style, St. Louis Style, baby back ribs, or beef ribs)
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard, or more as needed (acts as the “glue’ for the spice rub)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons DIY BBQ Spice Rub, or enough to cover the ribs evenly
  • 1 cup favorite sweet and spicy BBQ Sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F/160°C & season the ribs. While the oven is preheating, lay out a large piece of aluminum foil and add the ribs. Using a pastry brush, add a thin coating of mustard to all sides of the meat (this helps the dry rub stick better to the pork). Next, sprinkle the ribs all over with the spice rub being sure to rub and press it into the meat as you go. Once the ribs are fully coated, seal them up and cook them or let them rest at room temperature for 1 hour to allow the seasonings to penetrate the meat. *I typically bake them right away.
  2. Bake the ribs. Cover the ribs completely with foil and seal the edges to create a pouch and bake them for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until fork tender and juicy. Remove them from the oven and carefully peel back the foil using a pair of tongs and turn on the oven broiler function to 450°F/230°C. Turn the ribs over in their juices to baste and coat them well. Then (if desired) remove them to another baking tray lined with aluminum foil and slather them with BBQ sauce coating them completely. Place them under the preheated broiler for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the BBQ sauce starts to caramelize and form a crispy “bark” and the tops of the ribs are visibly sticky. Remove them from the oven and serve, Enjoy!
